The Mountain States Regional Health Equity Council developed two fact sheets on ‘Education and Health’ and ‘Housing and Health’ that discuss education and housing as social determinants of health and their impact on African American/Black and Hispanic/Latino communities in Colorado, North Dakota, South Dakota, Utah and Wyoming. While people with higher levels of education are more likely to earn more and have greater access to health care, African Americans/Blacks and Hispanic/Latinos in the region are less likely than whites to experience the benefits of education due to discrimination and other stress associated with being a minority. African Americans/Blacks and Hispanic/Latinos in the region are also more likely to experience unhealthy and unsafe housing due to factors such as their race/ethnicity, gender, education level, socioeconomic status, geographic location, or disability status.
