The Mountain States RHEC has developed two fact sheets titled ‘Education and Health’ and ‘Housing and Health’ that discuss education and housing as social determinants of health and their impact on American Indian/ Alaskan Natives (AI/AN) populations in the region. The ‘Education and Health’ fact sheet highlights the link between low levels of education and poor health, increased stress and low confidence. It also provides a regional profile of the graduation rates in the Mountain States. The ‘Housing and Health’ fact sheet discusses how sub-standard and unsafe housing can cause injuries or preventable diseases including nervous system and cardiovascular diseases, cancer and asthma. It then goes on to discuss how AI/AN populations in the Mountain States are disproportionately affected by sub-standard and unsafe housing and high levels of air pollution that are associated with asthma, cardiovascular disease and cancer. Please find two fact sheets below to view/download the documents.
