Nkem Nwankwo is a Youth Advisor at the Colorado Department of Public Health. In this position, he focuses on improving youth outcomes and utilizing positive youth development for prevention, intervention, and treatment. He connects with Colorado youth and utilizes their recommendations and feedback to provide consultation to local, state, and national partners. He also serves on “Colorado 9to25,” a state youth system development initiative, as a youth chair on the Board of Directors and a co-chair of the Social Media Action Team.

Mr. Nwankwo currently is completing coursework to earn a degree in chemistry with a minor in public health. He co-founded and leads an on-campus Health Equity Club and served as the president of the African Student Union. His background in advocacy, youth engagement, and health equity has led to his representation of Colorado youth on the Regional Health Equity Council (Region VIII). His other volunteer efforts include alcohol and drug cessation outreach to the Arapahoe and Shoshone tribes in Wyoming and a youth engagement and social media outreach consultant with the Colorado Black Health Collaborative.

Mr. Nwankwo strongly believes in youth-adult partnerships and advocates for the engagement of youth voices and positive youth development. ​ He enjoys music, the arts, basketball, and traveling.
