Alok Sarwal co-founded and has served as Executive Director of the Colorado Alliance for Health Equity and Practice (CAHEP) for over 11 years. CAHEP is a community-based organization that provides outreach, prevention, and clinical services to multi-ethnic underserved populations, particularly recent immigrants. He is responsible for strategic planning and executive/operational decision-making.

Dr. Sarwal’s leadership has enabled CAHEP to develop numerous programs: a technology system for health information technology, emergency preparedness and response for immigrant communities, and healthcare navigation services. He was a member of the Colorado Governor's Heath Information Technology Advisory Council. He served as co-chair of the Consumer Engagement Committee of Center for Value in Health Care.

Dr. Sarwal attended the Harvard Business School “Strategic Perspectives in Nonprofit Management” summer program. He was elected as a member of the Partnership of Academicians and Communities for Translation Council. This national program is funded by the National Institutes of Health in collaboration with the Colorado Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute. He co-authored a book, Voices from Colorado, to focus on the racial/ethnic heterogeneity of Colorado, particularly the vibrant Asian/Pacific Islander community, and highlight disparities in the state related to health and social needs.
